Patricia Bedford, Engineer turned Cake Artist & Baker

Patricia Bedford is a native Austinite and a woman of many talents. Her background and educational training are in Electrical and Computer Engineering, but her other passion is in cake artistry and baking. Graduating from Baylor University with a B.S. in ECE, Bedford spent over 10 years in the Engineering industry doing testing, product and client support. After her beloved grandmother, affectionately called "Suga", passed away, Bedford felt a calling. As the crux of the family, her grandmother had always cooked and baked delicious meals for all to enjoy at her home. Determined to continue the tradition and to honor her grandmother's legacy, Bedford began baking cakes and then soon started taking decorating classes. As she improved over time, and at the urging of family and friends, she opened Suga's Cakery, a custom cake shop specializing in event catering and dietary-friendly treats.

In addition, Bedford serves as Vice President of the Pflugerville Black Business Builders,  where she facilitates business education and networking opportunities for Black-owned businesses. As Vice President, she planned and coordinated the Inaugural PBBB Business Symposium in conjunction with the Pflugerville Community Development Corp that attracted 50+ business owners for a day of learning and networking from industry leaders in business. The Symposium featured sessions with Google, Facebook, the Secretary of State's Office as well as CPAs and patent and trademark attorneys.

As VP, Bedford also serves as a liaison for the organization with the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation, Pflugerville Downtown Association as well as Pflugerville City Council. Most notably, serving on the CEDS 2.0 Steering committee with the PCDC, advocating for the city ordinance before Pflugerville City Council that would allow food trucks in the Pflugerville limits and served on the Downtown East Community Stakeholder Committee.

She is also a member of the Les Dames d'Escoffier - Austin Chapter , an international organization who's mission is to inspire, advance, and support women in food, beverage, and hospitality to achieve excellence in leadership and philanthropy.

Bedford enjoys cooking and entertaining for family and friends. She is a former clarinetist who would love to learn piano.
